October: Newly Reconstituted ICSC Board of Directors has First Meeting
The newly installed ICSC Board held its first meeting on October 18 – 19, 2011 in New York. In addition to adopting new by-laws, the board created several committees and appointed chairs for each:
Executive Committee:
Andrew Susman, Chairman
Laura Murray, Secretary
Brian Tervo, Treasurer
Finance Committee: Brian Tervo, Chairman
Marketing Committee: Ken Zinn, Chairman
Membership Committee: Steve Tippie, Chairman
Research and Publications: Ben Chen, Chairman
Among other topics, the board discussed the ICSC’s mission and purpose, both from an historical perspective and as well as with an eye to its future direction. Board members felt the ICSC could serve the Internet content syndication (ICS) industry in a number of ways, including:
Promote awareness of ICS among key audiences
Identify categories of ICS and pay models
Provide standards that will promote the ease of movement of content
Define key business factors
Become a trusted source for understanding aspects of ICS
Provide a voice for the ICS industry
Engage in legislative and regulatory advocacy
Keep members abreast of the development of issues such as legal issues and business climates
Serve as an on-call industry analyst
Meaningful engagement on an issue of importance to the ICS industry is a high priority for board members.
The timing of a transition to a paid membership base and various dues structures were discussed briefly, but a plan has not yet been adopted.
Board members are in frequent touch with one another continuing to discuss, in advance of the next board meeting to be held in early 2012, the most effective ways by which the ICSC can serve the ICS industry.
